Postpartum / aftercare
Your baby is here!
Congratulations!
Now begins the exciting journey with your newborn.
The first few weeks after childbirth – the so-called postpartum period – are a time of intense emotions, but also of physical adjustment. It is important to us that you are not left alone during this sensitive phase. A midwife by your side offers you the necessary security and individual support in the comfort of your own home.
Medical safety and care
During regular home visits, the midwife closely monitors the natural involution of the uterus, as well as the intensity and course of postpartum bleeding, in order to detect any complications early. The professional monitoring of the healing of any birth injuries, such as perineal tears or cesarean section wounds, and the mother's overall physical recovery are also key aspects of the care. Simultaneously, the healthy development of your newborn is closely monitored, with particular attention paid to weight gain and careful umbilical cord care. This holistic approach ensures maximum medical safety for you and your child during this sensitive early period.
Together through breastfeeding: Support with breastfeeding problems
The beginning of a breastfeeding relationship is a very special process, but it can be accompanied by uncertainties and breastfeeding difficulties, especially at the start. It is important to us that you feel well supported during this phase. Your midwife is your first point of contact: With her experience and valuable tips on optimal nutrition and the right latching techniques, she will help you confidently overcome typical challenges during the postpartum period.
This expert guidance allows us, for example, to detect and gently resolve painful milk stasis early on. This is crucial to nip the development of mastitis, which requires treatment, in the bud. Should the symptoms persist or be accompanied by fever, we are always available in our practice to provide you with medical advice and ensure your breastfeeding health and the well-being of your baby.
Working together for your health
We work closely with your midwife. She will inform us immediately of any medical abnormalities or complications so that we can coordinate the best treatment for you. Should you experience any further acute symptoms, our team is also available through our home visit service or at the practice.
FAQ - "Frequently Asked Questions""
What is the difference between milk stasis and mastitis?
A milk stasis is a painful hardening of the breast caused by trapped milk. If left untreated, it can develop into mastitis (breast inflammation), which is accompanied by fever, redness, and a general feeling of illness and usually requires medical treatment.
What to do about general breastfeeding problems.
Breastfeeding problems such as sore nipples or latching difficulties are not uncommon in the early stages. Your midwife will support you with tips on proper technique and care to alleviate pain and promote a relaxed breastfeeding relationship.
What is meant by postpartum bleeding?
Lochia (postpartum bleeding) is the natural discharge from the uterus after childbirth. It usually lasts four to six weeks, changes in color and intensity over time, and is an important indicator of the normal healing process. Initially reddish, then brownish, yellowish, and finally clear.
„"Emotional turmoil after childbirth? We'll guide you through the baby blues."“
In the days following childbirth, many women experience an emotional low, the so-called "baby blues," triggered by the significant hormonal changes. While this phase usually subsides on its own, we, as your gynecologists, specialize in reliably identifying the boundary between a temporary low mood and the onset of postpartum depression. In our practice, you will find a safe and supportive space to openly discuss your feelings, anxieties, and exhaustion. We offer empathetic counseling and work closely with specialized networks to provide you with the necessary support for a healthy start to family life.
