birth
The path to life:
Spontaneous birth or cesarean section? Home birth, birthing center or hospital?
Choosing the mode of delivery is one of the most important decisions you will make during your pregnancy. In our practice, we place great emphasis on supporting you throughout this process. There is no single "right" or "wrong" option, but rather the path that offers the greatest safety and comfort for you and your child.
Spontaneous birth: The natural process
In contrast, there is spontaneous birth, the natural way for the child to enter the world. From a medical perspective, this process is usually the first choice, provided there are no contraindications. The exceptional hormonal situation during labor optimally prepares both mother and child for the time after birth. A major advantage is the usually much faster recovery: Many mothers are able to get up again shortly after giving birth and leave the hospital sooner. Furthermore, the immediate skin-to-skin contact (bonding) directly after birth often promotes a more intense initial bond.
However, nature is not subject to precise planning. A spontaneous birth can be very time-consuming and carries the risk of unforeseen complications, such as stalled labor or fetal distress. In such cases, an emergency cesarean section may be necessary to protect the health of mother and child.
Your individual birth plan
In our consultations, we take ample time to carefully weigh these options. We discuss your medical history, your child's situation, and your personal wishes or concerns. Our goal is to provide you with well-informed decision-making support based on medical facts and empathy.
Whether you choose a natural birth or a cesarean section: We will support you with expertise and empathy so that you can look forward to this life-changing event with confidence and calm.
Cesarean section: Planning and medical necessity
A cesarean section (cesarean section) is a surgical procedure that is now routine in obstetrics. A distinction is made between a planned cesarean section, which is determined in advance for medical reasons (such as breech presentation or placenta previa), and an elective cesarean section, which is chosen based on personal preference.
A significant advantage of a planned cesarean section lies in its high degree of predictability and the emotional control it offers over the timing of the birth. For many women, this provides psychological relief. However, it's important to remember that this is abdominal surgery. This carries risks such as impaired wound healing, infections, and an increased risk of bleeding. The postpartum recovery period also typically lasts longer, as the surgical wound needs time to heal and physical capacity is limited in the first few days.

Finding the right place for childbirth: focus on safety and security.
Choosing a place to give birth is a very personal decision, and we will provide you with expert support as part of our care. Each option offers individual advantages, tailored to your needs and the progress of your pregnancy.
For maximum medical safety, especially in high-risk pregnancies or multiple births, Level 1 maternity hospitals are available. Thanks to their on-site specialized neonatology (premature baby unit), these hospitals offer top-tier, 24/7 care for mother and child. Level 2 hospitals are also excellently equipped and competently handle less complex high-risk cases.
If you desire a particularly low-intervention, self-determined birth within a clinical setting, a midwife-led birthing unit may be the ideal choice. Here, the focus is on natural childbirth with minimal intervention, while the safety of the hospital remains paramount.
As family-oriented alternatives, midwife-led birthing centers, birthing homes, or home births offer highly individualized care in a familiar environment. Here, birth is understood as a natural process without direct medical interventions at a clinical level. Together, we will analyze your health situation so that you can choose the place where you feel safest and most comfortable for this momentous event.
